For over a decade, the PBA has helped Impact Mission Camps sponsor an annual, weeklong youth camp in the Danville/Pittsylvania County region to serve residents encountering hardships in maintaining their homes. Youth from around Virginia were invited to the area to work on projects ranging from building access ramps to mowing grass. On average, the camp helped four homeowners each year. Unfortunately, Impact Mission Camps is not scheduled to return to our area in 2026.
Through our involvement with this camp, there are people living in their homes today because of the help they received from our efforts. One lady that we helped developed a debilitating back condition that required her to use a mobility scooter. She not only lost access to her home, but soon after her medical diagnosis, she lost her husband. The money she was saving to one day get a ramp installed went to pay for her husband's funeral. The PBA and Impact stepped in and built an access ramp for her at no cost. She commented at the conclusion of the project, "You didn't build a ramp, you built a bridge for me to once again access the outside world."
We know there continues to be a need in our community, and we want to keep the momentum going. We believe the PBA is in a unique position to help fill this need. Therefore, we’ve launched the PBA Outreach Mission Project. We plan to begin this new endeavor by partnering with the Danville/Pittsylvania County Habitat for Humanity to host a “Rock the Block” event.
1. Focus on living the two greatest commandments: Love God and Love Others.
2. Unite the many parts of the Church to act as one body.
3. Engage, inspire, and help people in the community through our words and deeds.
Rock the Block is a program created by Habitat for Humanity that seeks to rally volunteers and businesses to donate time and money to help specific areas within a community. Habitat is known for building houses for families in need, but they wanted to do more for more people. Rock the Block is the answer.
The program focuses resources on a particular block, street, or other defined area that needs a boost. Projects during a Rock the Block event can include painting, exterior debris removal, hedge trimming, mowing, mulching, and minor exterior repairs.
Rock the Block is scheduled for July 16th through 18th. More information can be found by clicking on the "Schedule" link in the menu at the top of this page.
Campbell Street in Danville was selected for the event.
This depends on two variables. First, homeowners must register their homes to be included in the program and give us consent to work on their property. The second variable relates to the number of volunteers that participate. The more people we have the more work we can accomplish.
You can help in several ways. First, we need people that are willing to do hard, physical labor. These projects will not be done if we don’t have people to do the work. However, if you’re not able to serve on a work crew, you can still help.
You or your church can sign up to help provide or serve lunch. If you only have a few hours to spare, you can stop by to help clean up. If you can’t attend the event, you can consider a monetary donation. We also need your prayers. Please consider praying that we safely and successfully accomplish God’s purpose.
We are focusing our resources on Campbell Street. Registration will only be open to homeowners that live on Campbell Street.
Ultimately, we will trust God to direct His resources. The primary objective of the PBA is to become a resource for people that have encountered medical situations, financial hardships, or other uncertainties that affect their ability to maintain a safe, functioning home. Secondly, we want to work through area churches to encourage youth participation in helping with these projects. Our eventual hope is to create a series of mini camps involving both youth and adults that combine meeting the needs of homeowners and uniting people in the name of Jesus.
